Chapter History

The Prince George’s County Chapter Top Ladies of Distinction (TLOD), Inc. has been an exemplary model for community service since 2009, with a focus on five major thrusts; the Top Teens of America (TTA), Senior Citizens programming, Community Beautification, Community Partnerships, and improvement of the Status of Women. It is not by accident that in 2009, on the Sapphire Anniversary year of TLOD, Inc. Prince George’s County was blessed with  the establishment of a new chapter organized by Lady Jacqueline (Jackie) Wilcher. To understand how this chapter started, we need to rewind the clock to August 2, 2008, when the seeds for the new chapter were planted at a Dale City-Prince William County Chapter of TLOD meeting. At an orientation meeting held at Northern Virginia Community College, the National Area II Director, Lady Dolores Chriss suggested to members from Maryland that they form a local Maryland chapter. Lady Jackie, an inductee and Maryland resident agreed with her suggestion and reached out to Lady Jeanine Walton, another inductee and resident of Prince George’s County about forming a chapter.

With their interest piqued, a meeting was held on Monday, April 20, 2009, to discuss the possibility of forming a TLOD chapter in Prince George’s County. 27 women attended an inaugural meeting held at Oxon Hill Branch Library to discuss a Prince George’s County chapter.  On Sunday, May 3, 2009, 21 ladies along with the Chapter Organizer, Lady Jackie signed the Charter Application to submit to the National Office of TLOD, Inc. for approval.

On Thursday, May 7, Lady Jackie received a phone call from the National Treasurer, Lady Barbara Wooten concerning the application. During this discussion, Lady Barbara mentioned that a recent chapter had inducted teens into the TTA Program on the same day as the induction of the ladies. Although this would mean a very aggressive timeline to prepare, Lady Jackie felt it was achievable and called a vote from the prospective charter members.  The ladies responded overwhelmingly to induct the teens implementing TLOD’s number one initiative, the TTA Program at its August 30 chartering day where 21 ladies where inducted into TLOD. In addition, three young men and 14 young ladies were inducted into the TTA Program.  The Prince George’s County Chapter was “On the Road to Make a Difference!” During its first four years, its they began to make a difference with the following accomplishments:
